REVIEW: Science Center

Submitted by West Des Moines Mom

We spent the day at the Science Center of Iowa yesterday. Wow, has it changed since I used to go when I was a child (then, it was located next to the Art Center on Grand Ave.).

The new facility is 110,000 square feet. It offers interactive learning experiences and fun for all ages. You can touch almost everything, tons of hands on learning, playing and discovering. There are caves, animals, bubbles, a planearium, an IMAX theater, a solar system and so much more.

The big attraction--and it is big in every sense of the word--at this museum, is the IMAX theater. Since the museum opened, I have attended four movies there, which dealt with such topics as climbing Mt. Everest, going out into space, exploring the Titanic and Hurricane Katrina. One note--if you suffer from migraines or any related disorders, you might want to talk to your doctor before watching a show at the IMAX; you might be disoriented just by finding a seat, not to mention by the sound and glare from the screen.
