REVIEW: Heritage Carousel & Union Park

The opening weekend of the Heritage Carousel was seemingly the event of northeast Des Moines. We joined what felt like thousands of Des Moines-ians on Sunday, May 20, to give the old-fashioned carousel a spin, and it was the most fun we'd had for $1.50 in a long time.

Aside from the carousel, which operates throughout the summer beginning May 26, Union Park has the most outstanding playground equipment in Des Moines. There's the big "rocket" jungle gym (which is pretty awesome for the kids whose parents aren't paranoid like me) that has a slide that must go about 30 feet in the air. But they also have two gyms for smaller kids, toddler swings and a wading pool.

If you haven't been to the carousel yet, get yourself there. It's the perfect Sunday post-nap activity, as it runs until 8 p.m!
