REVIEW: Des Moines Arts Festival, Kids' Activities

Submitted by Waterbury Mom

We ventured down to the Arts Festival around 5:00 p.m. with our 3-year-old and 9-month-old. This is the first year that we took the kids down there and we were pleasantly surprised with all of the kid-oriented activities.

Our 3-year-old had a blast doing the kids art activities. She loved all the crafts and was completely mesmerized by the stilt-walker and the Starry Night billboard. We will definitely be taking our older daughter back next year.

The 9-month-old could not have cared less about the whole event and eventually got a little ticked off at being confined to the stroller for so long, so she may have to wait a few more years before she gets a return trip.

The one frustrating thing was trying to navigate the whole area (especially where all of the kid art activities were located), with two strollers as well as a mobility impaired adult.  It was hard to push the strollers on the grass and up and down all of the curbs.  All in all, however, I think it’s one of Des Moines’ best family-friendly events, especially with the amazing weather we had that weekend!
